After a tumultuous start, Cyberpunk 2077 has reached a significant milestone as its user rating on Steam transitions from “mostly positive” to “very positive.” With over 553,000 user ratings, 80% of them now indicate a positive reception.
While this achievement may not be groundbreaking in itself, it signifies a significant turnaround for Cyberpunk 2077. Despite the initial controversy, the game was generally well-received on PC, especially for players with high-end systems. Even during its troubled launch, the Steam score never dropped below 70%, which qualifies as “mostly positive.” Although the game faced more severe issues on consoles, CD Projekt remained committed to improving the experience.
CD Projekt Red’s global community director, Marcin Momot, expressed gratitude to fans for recognizing the team’s hard work and dedication over the years since the game’s release.
The turning point began in November 2021, when new user reviews started to trend toward “very positive.” The Steam Autumn Sale attracted many new players, resulting in an influx of positive feedback. While the overall rating remained “mostly positive,” the continuous stream of new reviews gradually shifted the needle. Additionally, last year’s Edgerunners update, coinciding with the acclaimed Netflix series release, addressed long-standing issues and won favor by introducing improvements, such as the inclusion of cosmetic armor slots.
It is worth noting that when checking the Steam page, Cyberpunk 2077 may still display as “mostly positive.” This discrepancy is due to individual user review settings, which allow excluding “off-topic reviews” to combat review bombing. If all reviews are included, the rating would reflect the “very positive” status.
It is unlikely that Cyberpunk 2077 will achieve Steam’s highest rating, “Overwhelmingly Positive,” which requires 95% positive user reviews. Nonetheless, the journey from its infamously troubled launch to a “very positive” rating is a remarkable accomplishment. Barring any extraordinary developments, such as the Phantom Liberty expansion, this achievement signifies a significant redemption for the game.
